![]() But seriously though, get a local sim next time and you won't be disappointed. I do not see the point of using T-Mobile's roaming for long periods of time. In my opinion, getting a local sim almost always gives you better service at a cheaper price. I actually keep my Taiwan Mobile postpaid plan, keep it on the bottom tier ($3 per month, interestingly similar to T-Mobile.) and upgrade it whenever I'm there. In metro areas, you'll be easily getting 100+ mbps speeds, and unlimited internet costs around $20 bucks per month (between NT$600-800). I visit my Taiwanese relatives every summer and I have to say that given you're staying for multiple weeks per visit, do try a local SIM card. My parents will be going back in a couple of months, let's see if their roaming experience matches ours. ![]() Not sure what tmobile changed but now roaming (at least in Taiwan) is far more useful then it used to be. We were in some big cities (Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung) as well as some country side farm lands and the reception and speeds were the same. We were using Iphone 6S, Galaxy S7, Galaxy Avant and LeEco Le S3. Still had high battery drain when roaming (about 10%/hr idle vs 2%/hr idle when back in USA). Loading web sites and google maps was relatively painless (still had to be patient). We were able to make VOIP calls using line/fb/hangouts without any issues. Speeds however were much better this trip, speed tests show close to 100kbps, (vs less than 10kbps in previous trips). The only carrier we can register on is Taiwan Mobile. We were only able to connect to 3G HSPA and occasionally HSPA+. This trip, we noticed that we were not able to connect to LTE network at all, no matter where we went on the island. No VOIP calls would work and loading web sites or email was impossible. We used to always connect to the LTE network in Taiwan and used to be able to roam on any one of the 4 major carriers (Taiwan Mobile, Chunghua telecom, Far East, T-Star) but the speeds are always so slow you can't do anything other than send IM via FB/Line/Hangouts etc. We visit Taiwan often and on past trips the roaming was so slow it was pretty much unusable. We just got back from a nearly 4 week trip to Taiwan. r/tmoemployees: The sub for employees only Slow Data Speeds? - Read this to learn before you post! I also was not able to use the spare battery as I had a power bank with me all the time. I did not bother checking the internet speed because I really did not experience slowness in my connection while browsing my phone. Et voila! No more #FOMO (fear of missing out)! ![]() It was quick and easy to operate the device, just power on and search for the specific Wifi network on my phone to connect. I was already connected to the SingTel network even before stepping out of the airplane. ![]() Yes, there were a lot of free public Wifis in Singapore but I wanted uninterrupted connection and I got that from having my own hotspot wherever I go. We mainly used the pocket wifi while outside roaming the sites and streets of Singapore so that means 4 mobile phones (it can support up to 10 devices) were connected at any given time. We stayed in Singapore for 5 days and we connected 4 mobile phones and 1 laptop while there. ![]()
